<UPGRADE INFORMATION Upgrading to Version 2.50 firmware>

Thank you for buying a Brother HL-1270N network ready printer.
The firmware file Version 2.50 that you are about to download improves the functionality of the HL-1270N printer in the following ways:  

* New Protocol support: DLC/LLC protocol for greater compatibility with Windows NT 3.51, NT 4 and Windows 2000. In addition to the conventional printing protocols used by the above operating systems, this new firmware supports the DLC/LLC protocol.  

* New Protocol support: SMB printing using the TCP/IP protocol.

SMB support allows the printer to appear in the network neighbourhood of Windows computers, it also allows you to print from DOS applications that are running in Windows. Simply clicking the printer as it appears in the network neighbourhood enables you to quickly and easily send documents to the printer using the TCP/IP protocol (must be installed on your PC). However, in larger networks, we continue to recommend that you use conventional printing protocols such as the Brother Peer to Peer printing software, the built in TCP/IP printing capabilities of Windows NT 3.51, NT 4 or Windows 2000, or the DLC/LLC or AppleTalk protocols.  

* Enhanced Windows 2000 BOOTP support.
When used in conjunction with a Windows 2000 DHCP it was found that the printer would not collect any BOOTP IP address configurations from the DHCP server. Namely, the HOST NAME and DEFAULT GATEWAY address information was ignored by the server. Version 2.50 firmware or later resolves this issue.  

* Enhanced UNIX support.
Users of NetBSD Unix systems could encounter problems when trying to send print jobs from the command line of the Unix system. The printer would either ignore the job, or in some instances, the printer would stop communicating with the network. Version 2.50 or later resolves this issue.  

* Fixed the printer disappearing from BRAdmin32.
In some cases, the printer could disappear from the BRAdmin32 management Window. Version 2.50 or later resolves this problem.
