HOW TO INSTALL
For windows98 users only!
In order to upgrade the USB driver, you need to take the four steps shown
below.
- Download the appropriate file
- Extract the download file
- Uninstall the driver
- Install the driver
- Download the appropriate file
- Please make a temporary directory on your HDD to save the downloaded
self-extracting file.
e.g. E:\brusb
- Click the "DOWNLOAD" to start downloading.
- Select the temporary directory as where to store the downloaded file.
- Extract the download file
Double click on the file in Explorer, or
Click [Start], select [Run], then type the temporary directory name and
the file name (E:\brusb\xxxx.exe). Then choose OK button.
- Uninstall the driver
In case the USB drivers is installed , first you
will need to uninstall the USB drivers.
- Disconnect the USB cable.
- Open DOS window from Start - Program - MS DOS prompt
- Move to the drive where the download file has been extracted typing
the drive letter (e.g. E:), and press Enter.
- Change directory to brusb/DISK1.
- Type BRMFLPNP and press Enter. You will see " Uninstall completed
successfully ot;.
- Exit the MS DOS prompt.
- Install the driver
Note!! USB Cable is only for Windows98
- Connect the MFC to the PC using the USB Cable
- After you have set up the MFC and checked that it is working
properly, make sure your MFC is turned on and your
PC is turned off.
- Connect the USB cable to both the MFC and the PC.
- Install USB and Printer Driver and Twain Driver
- Turn on the PC and the "Add New Hardware Wizard" appears on its screen.
- Click Next
- Select (Recommended) and click Next.
- Select Specify a location and remove the other check marks, then click Browse.
- Select the folder (eg.brusb/disk1) in the directory that you specified and click OK.
- Make sure "Specify a location" is selected and click Next.
- Select (Recommended) and click Next.
- Confirm the choice is Brother MFC USB Composite Device and click Next.
- If the Insert Disk Wizard appears, insert your Windows 98 CD-ROM and install the needed file.
- Select the correct CD-ROM drive where Windows98 CD-ROM is in and click OK.
- Click OK.
- After the file is copied, the "Add New Hardware Wizard" reappears.
Remove the Windows 98 CD-ROM.
- Click Finish.
- After the"MFC USB Composite Device" is installed and the "Add New Hardware Wizard quot; reappears, click Next.
- Repeat Steps of 14 two times more(for the Scanner and Printer Drivers). After that you can go to the next step c).

Driver>>
Select the Printer Port
Select BRUSB:USB Printer Port, click Next
Type a name for the printer
Enter a name for the printer, or you can use the name
supplied.
Test Print
If your test printing is successful, check Yes.
(If not, win98 trouble shooting page will appear and
the installation is finished automatically.)
- Your installation is completed. Click Finish.
