Brother has been working closely with Microsoft® to ensure that our current and future product range function with Windows® XP / Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition . This partnership has led to the development of a series of 'built-in' drivers (or In-box drivers) which are supplied with the Windows® XP / Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition operating system. Refer to the list below to see how your Brother product is supported by the Windows® XP / Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition operating system.

The version of PaperPort8.0 or PaperPort9.0 that is included on the CD-ROM that came with the product is not compatible with Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition.

Before upgrading
from your previous OS to Windows® XP, please be sure to uninstall all Brother software and drivers.
The CD-ROM packaged with some models of Brother Printer, Fax, DCP, or MFC cannot be used to install Windows® XP drivers or software. Please check the information for your model in the table listed below, on Windows® XP information and/or drivers compatibility. Note for MFC customers: If the label on the CD-ROM does not list Windows® XP then installing the software and /or driver will cause severe problems and loss of scanner function.
If you have already attempted to install the software from the CD-ROM,
it may be necessary to uninstall the software.
We cannot support Windows® XP(RC1/RC2) related issues.
Brother DOES NOT recommend for you to use Windows NT or Windows® 2000 driver
under Windows XP. If you use Windows® 2000 driver with Windows® XP, you
may experience system lockup or failures. For more details, click here.
Even if your Brother Product name does not appear in the list of Brother
printers in Windows® XP, it does NOT mean your product does not have
Windows® XP inbox driver.
Please be sure to check the tables listed below and refer to how
to install Inbox driver into your device.

Indicates that the appropriate printer, scanner and FAX drivers (if applicable) are installed without any user-intervention (these drivers are known as in-box drivers) and may not have the full functionality of Brother drivers available in previous Windows® operating systems. Indicates that the Brother Windows® XP or Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition drivers will not have the full functionality available on previous versions of Windows®.
pre-Native
Indicates that the Brother releases the patch program file to make Windows® 2000 driver work with Windows® XP.The patch program will give superior features to the built-in driver.
Native
Indicates that the Brother Windows® XP or Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition drivers will have the same capability as drivers available for other previous Windows® operating systems. For more information click here.

Indicates that using the product with Windows® XP or Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition is not supported.
