The Tennessee office of Brother International Corporation (U.S.A.) (BIC (USA)) is cooperating with an NPO named the March of Dimes (MOD) in their efforts to prevent birth defects and premature births in Memphis, Tennessee, which sees above-average numbers of premature births.
The MOD's "March for Babies&" is a two month-long fundraiser that begins around the middle of February every year and closes out around the end of April with a walking event. The Tennessee office of BIC (USA) supports this activity every year. In 2009, Ashley Davenport, the daughter of an employee who was born premature, was chosen to serve as our Ambassador to the event. She participated in various functions leading up to the April 2009 walkathon and sought the support of as many people as possible. Six volunteers from BIC (USA) participated in the event and $4,100 in donations were gathered.

From our employees' families Supporting the MOD for the chance they gave my daughter to grow |
Brother International Corporation (U.S.A.) Lawrence Davenport (C) with his wife Denise (R) and daughter Ashley (L) |
| It is a tremendous joy that my daughter Ashley was chosen to be an "ambassador&". My wife and I have told her how the March of Dimes gave her the chance to grow, and have encouraged her to support them in their efforts. We speak at all sorts of events about Ashley's story and there have been those listening who have been moved to tears. It has been truly a rewarding experience making people aware of the dangers associated with premature birth. |
