Brother Group Environmental Policy

As the unified policy for the entire group

The Brother Group Environmental Policy is based on the Brother Group Global Charter and summarizes the specific concepts of environmental activities. As it constitutes a single unified environmental policy for the entire group, Brother is globally developing activities to protect the environment and aiming to deliver new value not only via product performance and quality but also environmental considerations.

Basic philosophy

The Brother Group shall positively and continuously act to decrease the environmental impact of all aspects of our business operations so that society can achieve sustainable development.

Basic environmental policy

Concern for the environment shall be the cornerstone of all operations. Safety and environmental impact shall be prime considerations at every stage of a product's lifecycle, from design, development, manufacturing, customer usage, and disposal, to reuse and recycling.

Action guidelines
  • 1. We will set environmental targets in all areas (manufacturing, production, and service) and continuously improve their environmental aspects.
  • 2. We will not limit our activities to the observation of laws and regulations in all countries where we conduct business, but will also act with a strong moral responsibility to prevent pollution and reduce environmental impact.
  • 3. We will always consider waste reduction by more efficient use of resources and recycling of products, and will also avoid creating contamination by hazardous substances when designing and developing both technologies and products.
  • 4. While respecting voluntary activities by each company of the Brother Group, we will also exercise our environmental duties as a united group.
  • 5. We will enhance the environmental understanding and awareness of all employees by activities such as environmental education and PR.
  • 6. We will actively disclose our environmental efforts to our customers, local communities, and other interested parties to further foster understanding.

Brother Group's own "5R" concept

Reflecting Brother's unique concepts for creating new values in different forms

The Brother Group conducts environmental activities based on the "5R," which adds "Refuse" and "Reform" to the "Reduce," "Reuse" and "Recycle" 3R that serve as the basis for establishing a recycling-oriented society. "Reform" in particular is a Brother-original idea for creating values by changing the form of the present things based on new approaches and ideas.

"5R Award" to give impetus to and promote upgrading of environmental activities of the etire group

The "5R Award" is given to group companies and departments in an effort to give impetus to and promote upgrading of the environmental activities of the entire group. In FY2008 (April 1, 2008-March 31, 2009), the award was given to group companies and departments that worked on problems that required redress by corporate entities, such as global warming, waste, hazardous substances, etc., and that produced results during FY2007 (April 1, 2007-March 31, 2008).
