In commemoration of Brother Group’s 100th anniversary, Brother Industries, Ltd. (President Toshikazu Koike) will enter into an agreement called the "Cooperative Efforts for Forestation between Government and Businesses,*" which was proposed by the prefectural government of Gifu. The agreement will be between the Prefecture of Gifu and the City of Gujo in Gifu, Japan, and Brother Industries, Ltd. With this agreement, the company hopes to help promote and encourage environmental activities in the local communities.
Based on the agreement, Brother Industries, Ltd. will conduct forest conservation activities in the "Brother Forest in Gujo," which is actually located in three different areas of the city and covers a total combined area of 24 hectares. Employees of Brother Industries, Ltd. and their family members will plant trees and thin forests there in cooperation of the local residents.
During the 10-year agreement period, Brother will plant 4,000 broadleaf trees in a 4-hectare area which used to be a ski area. Brother will also thin Japanese cypress forest areas located on two parcels of land, one 12-hectare parcel and one 8-hectare parcel in the Brother Forest in Gujo.
Along with this agreement, Brother Industries, Ltd. is kicking off the "Eco Point Program" (provisional name) and will be encouraging its employees and their family members to participate in environmental activities in their local communities. In this program, participating Brother employees and family members can earn points for taking part in environmental activities. Their points will then be donated to the environmental projects conducted by BIL including the forestation and conservation efforts at the "Brother Forest in Gujo."
In Gujo City the source of the Nagara River, which runs through the Tokai Region, is located. By conducting forest conservation activities in the city, Brother Industries, Ltd., hopes to help to protect the watershed of the Nagara River, while reducing the amount of CO2 in the air.
| * | This agreement was proposed by the Gifu Prefecture Government and will be concluded as part of the "Joint Forestation Projects between Government and Prefectural Residents." The program is carried out jointly by the prefectural government, municipal governments in Gifu Prefecture and businesses under Gifu Prefecture’s Plan for Forestation. |
