Brother Industries, Ltd. (President: Toshikazu Koike) announced that it enters into an agreement on environmental protection activity for "Chiharazawa nature conservation area (hereinafter Chiharazawa)" with Aichi Prefecture and regional parties.
Chiharazawa is located in Okazaki-city, Aichi Prefecture. This is the nation's first attempt that a private company and prefectural government sign the agreement to conserve environment of the prefectually-designated Nature conservation area

The Brother Group involves in various different environmental activities based on "The Brother Group Global Charter". The Brother Group introduces "Brother eco point program" that gives points to eco-concious actions taken by the employees and their families. The points are used to promote protecting "Brother Forest in Gujo (Gujo city in Gifu Pref.)". The Brother Group pondered over the plan to further enhance environmental activities which are supported by this "Brother eco point program". As a result, we decided to enter an agreement for environmental activities at Chiharazawa.
Chiharazawa has distinctive rich natural forests. In this area, forest of broadleaf trees such as HIMESHARA (Stewartia monadelpha Sieb. et Zucc.) and OOZUMI(Malus toringo var. zumi) stretches. Aichi Prefecture designated Chiharazawa as a nature conservation area in March 1984, and has been conserving environment in this area. However, in recent years, it was recognized that a rapid increase in the number of non-native bamboo: moso bamboo has been threatening valuable endemic species in this area.
This activity will be conducted from September 2010 to September 2012. Employee volunteers will cut down bamboos in corporate with local residents and forest specialists. The first conservation activity will be performed on Sep 26
th, after the agreement is signed.

*Nature Conservation Area: Area protected by the Nature Conservation Law and each prefectural ordinance. Nature conservation areas are designated as wildness areas, nature conservation areas and the prefectural nature conservation areas. These areas keep untouched wild forest and rich natural environment.
