September 25, 2012

Brother Industries, Ltd.

Brother Industries, Ltd. (President: Toshikazu Koike) has achieved total accumulated production of 50 million home sewing machines as of September 2012.

Our home sewing machine production began in 1932 when we succeeded in mass-production of our first home sewing machine, the "Type 15 Model 70", at the Tenma-Cho Factory (Atsuta Ward in Nagoya). The domestic production base was then moved to the Mizuho Factory (Mizuho Ward in Nagoya) in 1950. We also began overseas production of home sewing machines in Taiwan Brother Industries, Ltd. (Kaohsiung) in 1979 and in Zhuhai Brother Industries, Co., Ltd. (Zhuhai) in 1993.
Furthermore, in April 2012, we started production in Brother Industries Saigon, Ltd., located nearby Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, and production is continuing at three bases overseas: high class models in Taiwan Brother Industries, Ltd., entry-level home sewing machines in Zhuhai Brother Industries, Co., Ltd., and Brother Industries Saigon, Ltd.

We are offering products and services which meet demands of customers all over the world as a leading manufacture in the home sewing machine industry. In terms of engineering as well, we have played the role of an engine for the home sewing machine market for many years, including the release of Japan's first electronic sewing machine (1976) and computerized sewing machine (1979), and the world's smallest and lightest home sewing machine with embroidery functions (1998).

Recently, we developed unconventionally innovative function for a home sewing machine which enables to connect to a personnel computer. This new function provides customers with new methods to enjoy home sewing machine. In addition, we actively promote "Sewing Station" which provides joy and usability with dramatically improved operability achieved by adopting a high definition large-sized liquid crystal display and camera.

We believe that the achievement of accumulated production of 50 million units is the result of patronage of our longtime customers, effort of sales partners and our untiring efforts in development. We will focus on product development to invigorate the home sewing machine market to reaching production of 60 million units, and strive for further sales expansion.
