Emmerich am Rhein. Environmental aspects with foresight are systematically
included in company decisions! The company Brother Internationale
Industriemaschinen GmbH has successfully been certified to ISO 14001:2004 by
the TÜV SÜD Management Service GmbH, an office of the TÜV SÜD AG.
To lower the consumption of energy and paper, as well as to sensitise employees - these concrete
changes have proven themselves by the systematic application of ISO 14001:2004 within Brother
Internationale Industriemaschinen GmbH. "We look at the certification of our company Brother
Emmerich with the predicate ISO 14001 as an honour and obligation at the same time, to strictly
continue the chosen way of the environmentally and energy conscious company policy in everyday
operations. This also underlines the worldwide Brother-company philosophy in regard to the
environmental purposes", Managing Director Leo Hessling said during the handing over of the
certificate. "With the integration of quality and environmental management the company has recognised
the signs of the time", according to Thomas Reuter of the TÜV SÜD Management Service GmbH.
Higher purpose of the ISO 14001:2004 is to promote the environmental protection and the avoidance of
environmental impacts in harmony with economic requirements. The implementation within the
company is not a unique or statistical issue, but it demands ongoing customisations and changes in the
sense of a continuous improvement process. The fact that these really take place, the company now
has a confirmation letter and seal from the safety standards authority TÜV SÜD.
The way to the certification of an UM-System consists of four phases. Phase 1: The TÜV employee
informs the company about the process of the certification and prepares the audit together with the
persons responsible. Phase 2: The TÜV auditor analyses the management-system on site and checks
the conformity with the corresponding norm, in this case ISO 14001:2004. Phase 3: The System-Audit
on site. This is about the analysis of the management-system in its conversion into practice, ideally with
the help of the added value chain. It is important that on this occasion, improvement potentials are
identified and together optimisation measures are decided on. Phase 4: The shared final conversation
takes place immediately after the audit. On the basis of the strengths and weaknesses recognised in the
audit the further development potential is discussed.
The continuous improvement process begins.
The audit-cycle consists of an annual surveillance audit and a recurrence audit every three years.
